Child Safety

Your child’s safety and wellbeing is our highest priority. We maintain the highest standards of child safety across all aspects of our service.

Committed to Child Safe Standards

We comply with the Victorian Child Safe Standards and the National Quality Framework, ensuring that a child-safe environment remains a paramount consideration.

Our Commitment

At Wyndarra Children’s Centre, we are committed to the safety and wellbeing of all children in our care. We have zero tolerance for child abuse and take proactive steps to prevent, identify, and respond to all allegations and concerns.

Wyndarra’s Recruitment & Safety Standards

At Wyndarra, we are committed to Child Safety. To uphold this commitment, all educators and staff undergo a comprehensive recruitment and screening process before commencing employment.

Our screening procedures include:

  • Verified Working with Children Check
  • Identity verification
  • Detailed review of previous employment and work history
  • Professional reference checks
  • Confirmation of the legal right to work in Australia
  • Completion of mandatory Child Protection and Child Safety training

All staff hold a current Working with Children Check (WWCC), which is re verified every three months to ensure ongoing compliance. Our team also participates in continuous refresher training across all required courses, supporting best practice in child development, wellbeing, and child safety.

To strengthen our commitment to quality, we conduct regular policy reviews, child safety audits, and facility updates. These processes help us ensure that our procedures remain current, effective, and aligned with sector expectations. We are proud that our centre has been consistently rated as Meeting the National Quality Standard across all areas—reflecting our dedication to providing a safe, supportive, and high-quality environment for every child.

Staff Training

Our educators and leadership team participate in regular, ongoing professional development focused on child protection, recognising signs of harm, understanding mandatory reporting obligations, and creating emotionally and physically safe environments for all children. This continued learning ensures our staff remain informed, confident, and proactive in safeguarding every child in our care.

Policies and Procedures

We maintain strong, well-structured systems to ensure the safety and wellbeing of every child in our care. Our team is guided by comprehensive and clearly articulated frameworks, including our Child Protection Policy, Code of Conduct, Risk Management procedures, and Incident Reporting processes. These systems outline clear expectations for staff behaviour, provide detailed steps for identifying and responding to concerns, and ensure that all actions are recorded and managed transparently. Through ongoing training and regular policy reviews, we uphold a culture of vigilance, accountability, and continuous improvement—ensuring that children, families, and staff feel safe, supported, and confident in our commitment to child protection.

Empowering

We foster environments where children feel genuinely respected, listened to, and safe to express their thoughts, feelings, and concerns. Our educators take the time to build trusting, responsive relationships that honour each child’s voice and perspective. Through consistent routines, nurturing interactions, and a culture of open communication, we empower children to speak up, ask questions, and share openly without fear or hesitation. We actively encourage children to participate in decision making, develop confidence in expressing themselves, and understand that their ideas and feelings are valued. By creating spaces that are emotionally safe and inclusive, we support every child in developing a strong sense of belonging, security, and self-advocacy.

Safe Environments

Our centre environments are purposefully designed with children’s safety and wellbeing at the forefront. We conduct regular audits, risk assessments, and safety checks to ensure our spaces remain secure, well maintained, and responsive to the needs of growing children. These proactive measures help us uphold high standards, minimise potential hazards, and provide families with confidence that their children are learning and playing in a safe, carefully monitored environment.

Partnerships with Families

We believe families play a vital and irreplaceable role in keeping children safe. At Wyndarra, we value open, honest communication and actively encourage families to share their insights, questions, and concerns at any time. Your perspectives help us strengthen our practices, deepen our partnerships, and ensure every child is supported by a strong, connected community of care.

Enrolment Procedure

We strongly encourage families to attend orientation sessions (free of charge) before their child begins at Wyndarra. These short visits help children become familiar with the environment, making their transition into care smoother and more comfortable.

Orientation also provides a valuable opportunity for parents and educators to share important information about the child’s routines, needs, and preferences. This ensures we can provide a happy, consistent, and supportive experience from the very first day.

Parents are welcome to ask questions about their child’s care during this time. For any further information about orientation, please speak with our staff.

How to Report a Concern:

1. Speak directly to the Centre Director or Nominated Supervisor

2. Submit a written complaint using our complaints procedure

3. Contact the Department of Education and Training on 1800 338 663

4. For urgent child protection concerns, contact DHHS on 13 12 78

All staff are mandatory reporters and will report any suspected child abuse to the appropriate authorities in accordance with legal requirements.
